French
Each year Transition Year students of French are invited to participate in a school French Exchange Programme. Holy Child Killiney girls host their exchange partner from the Lycée Georges-Duby for a period of two weeks. Our students are then invited to spend a fortnight attending their school in Aix-en-Provence. This experience provides students with a wonderful chance to develop their French language skills in an immersive environment. Students also benefit from a new travel, social and cultural experience by attending a new school and living in another family’s home.
Spanish
“Growing with Language” offers Transition Year Students a Spanish Language course in Córdoba, Southern Spain. This full immersion language programme is specifically designed for Irish Secondary School Students.
The only way to gain fluency is to “live” the language. Now Students have the opportunity to stay with a Spanish family, attend a Spanish Secondary School and experience Spanish customs and cultures first hand through family life, school and excursions. To accelerate learning each day there are structured Spanish Language Classes for the Students. It is this interaction allows learning to flow continuously – making Spanish alive!
A Monitor will be on hand throughout the Students stay in Córdoba following the accompanied flight out to Spain. The Group that departs for Córdoba is hugely different to the confident one that returns.
US Exchange Programme
Students of Transition Year are invited to take part in the Holy Child Schools Network Exchange Programme. This Programme is designed to provide an opportunity for a student in Transition Year to attend a Holy Child school in the U.S. for a period of 3-4 weeks. We believe the opportunity to make new friends, the experience of another Holy Child school culture and the chance to live in another family’s home all create a genuine opportunity for personal growth and contribution. Holy Child Killiney has established networks with Oak Knoll School of the Holy Child New Jersey. Connelly School of the Holy Child Maryland and Mayfield Senior School in California. Students who take part in this reciprocal exchange will stay in the home of their exchange partner in the U.S and in turn, host their American partner in Ireland. This Programme is a wonderful opportunity for students to experience the Holy Child school culture overseas, and also welcome their partner to Killiney to participate in school life in Killiney.
