4K’s Social & Cultural Trip

This week’s Social and Cultural trip took 4K to the Tree of Life/Peace Tree with Ms Byrne! We took the Dart from Killiney to Harmonstown Station. From the station, we walked through the beautiful St. Anne’s Park in Raheny. We saw graceful swans, winding streams and autumn leaves beneath our feet whilst we made our way to the end of the park.

Exiting just beside James Larkin Road, we saw the fabulous 200-year-old Monterey-Cypress tree! This 10-metre-tall masterpiece was begun in 2015, when sculptor Tommy Craggs got to work carving the variety of wild animals spotted between Bull Island & St. Anne’s Park. He used a chainsaw to sculpt the animals. It was completed & unveiled in 2018, where viewers could get a look at this canvas of animals; it is truly a work of art.

After we spent some time admiring the tree, we were given the gift of independence to make our own way back home. This trip was enjoyable, and it was great to explore a new area of our city.
