ADVENTure Classes
During Advent each class group has the opportunity to spend time together exploring the message of Advent in a special RE class named ‘ADVENTure’. Today we went to the Chapel for our ADVENTure, and it was such a lovely break from all the usual business of school. The Chapel looks really beautiful with the House Christmas Trees, lots of candles, and the lovely Advent Wreath.
To begin we gathered around the Advent Wreath and said a prayer about how the light of God shines for us, and that we should allow our inner light to shine.
Then we took a paper Christmas decoration in our own House colour, and spent some quiet time writing a special intention about someone or something we want to remember this Christmas. This helped us all take a moment to stop and think, and be grateful for the little things we might take for granted, keeping those who may need extra love and support in our minds. We then quietly hung our prayers on the House Trees so they can all be remembered in the Advent Masses in the coming weeks. After that we went up to the Prayer Room. It was really festive with lots of decorations and a lovely Crib scene.
In teams of four we played games with an Advent focus, such de-coding, name the Carol, and building jigsaws of lovely Christmas images. This definitely brought out our more competitive sides, but we all really loved it. We were either laughing our heads off, or in full concentrated focus trying to win. And of course, the tasty treats for the winners kept us all very motivated. Overall it was such a lovely break and also gave us a chance to think of the message of Christmas, keep loved ones in our minds, be grateful, and enjoy some fun time together.
