Le Chéile Knock Symposium
On 23rd April, ten 5th Year students who had been commissioned as Eucharistic Ministers travelled to Knock to attend the annual symposium organised by the Le Chéile Schools Trust. Each year, over 70 schools within the Trust are invited to participate in this faith-filled and reflective day.
The day began with an early departure, as students gathered at Sion Hill at 6:00am to travel by bus to Knock alongside students from Sion Hill and Muckross. Despite the early start, the journey was enjoyable, with students spending the time chatting, resting, and anticipating the day ahead. A short stop was made at Athlone Service Station for refreshments and a chance to stretch.
Upon arrival at Knock, the group was warmly welcomed and began the morning with engaging icebreaker activities led by Jim Deeds. These activities encouraged reflection on different forms of prayer, including music, movement, and meditation, and helped to foster a sense of community among the students.
This was followed by Mass in the Basilica, which was a particularly memorable part of the day. The ceremony was both meaningful and inspiring, enhanced by the beauty of the Basilica and its remarkable mosaic mural, composed of over 1.5 million pieces. Three students, Louise, Ellie, and Cecilia, had the honour of assisting in the distribution of the Eucharist, making the occasion especially significant.
After lunch, which was enjoyed outdoors in the sunshine, students took part in a series of afternoon workshops. These included activities such as letter-writing to God, exploring the history of Knock, meditation, and music. The day concluded with a presentation from students of St. Paul’s, Greenhills, who shared insights into their school community and how they live out the values of the Le Chéile Trust.
Following some time for reflection, photographs, and the opportunity to purchase souvenirs, the group began the journey home. Although tired, all agreed that the symposium had been a deeply enriching and memorable experience!
