HCK at ROCKMUN
On the weekend of 23rd and 24th of January, six students - Hannah Houlihan, Cecilia Xiao, Izzy O’Regan, Sabine Narzisi, Mary He and Daireann Quigley - represented the Irish delegation at the Blackrock College Model United Nations (ROCKMUN). Our delegation was spread across a range of committees such as SPECPOL and SOCHUM, each focusing on different global issues.
Over the course of the two-day conference, we debated a wide variety of topics across our committees such as ‘The Question of Foreign Military Bases in Decolonised Territories’, ‘The Question of Regulating Drone Warfare’ and ‘The Question of Artificial Intelligence’s Impact on Youth Development’.
Many of us delivered speeches both for and against proposed resolutions, responding to points of information from other delegates and working collaboratively as a committee to amend clauses to create comprehensive resolutions.
One of the highlights of MUN is the General Assembly, where resolutions passed in committee are debated in front of the entire conference.
I had the opportunity to speak during General Assembly, presenting arguments in favour of my committee’s resolution in front of delegates from schools across the country
Overall, the conference was an extremely enjoyable experience and gave us insight into the problems relevant in society today, while also allowing us to meet new people from other schools.
