Sixth Year Christmas Outreach Hospital Bags

The 6th Year students in HCK take part in a Social Action project of their own each Christmas season. This Advent, during Religion classes, we decorated 35 hospital bags and made cards for patients in St. Vincent’s Psychiatric Hospital, in Fairview. We have strong links with St Vincent’s and each year support the hospital with a Christmas outreach.

Using donations from the students in our year we then purchased a selection of small gifts, including beauty sets, fluffy socks, hats and gloves, to fill the bags for patients to open on Christmas Day.

We were delighted to welcome Ann Cuffe Fitzgerald, a long-time member of the HCK community as past student, past parent and Chairperson of the Board. Ann is also a committed and loyal member of SVP.

Ann spoke to all the 6th Years about who the hospital bags would be going to, and the hugely positive difference this small Christmas gesture makes for patients in St. Vincent’s Fairview.

She also spoke about the work of the SVP more generally, and it was wonderful to hear about the meaningful support they provide within our wider community, from weekly visitation to homes and hospitals, to food banks and educational bursaries.

Ann was truly inspiring to listen to and was a wonderful example of living our school ethos of “Actions Not Words” every day.

Siobhán Ryan, 6th Year.
Social Action Prefect.
