TY Close Encounters Self-Defence Workshop

We recently had the exciting opportunity to spend the day doing a self-defence class. The instructor was called Eamon and he was very entertaining and engaging and provided lots of information about how best to protect ourselves when we are out and about.

We spent the first two hours going over basic techniques and scenarios where we might need to use self defence. He even got some of us to go up and engage in demonstrations with him. He demonstrated skills such as hammering, raking, elbowing and how to tackle people down, if we happened to be in danger. After our break, we were split into small groups and got to practise the skills Eamon had shown us; this was really fun to do and we all had a really good time. At the end, Eamon gave us a quick recap on everything we learnt that day. It was a really nice break from the classroom and a great way to finish off the school week but was also very beneficial to all of us as we learnt basic survival skills that hopefully none of us will have to use in the future.
