Basketball
This year we have had a busy start to our basketball season with 11 teams registered to play in all school league competitions. While our Senior and Cadette teams begun their competitive league campaigns, our Minor (1st Years) and Junior (2nd Years) teams have been busy training twice a week while playing friendlies against different schools such as Loreto Dalkey, Mount Anville, Loreto on the Green, King’s Hospital, Andrew’s College and Rathdown. Myself and the coaches have seen great improvement throughout the year, especially with our first years who most have only started playing basketball this year. Well done to our Senior A and Cadette A teams who progressed through to the League Quarter Finals and both did a superb job against some touugh competition. Well done to Annie O’Brien (1st Year) who scored the first ice cream shot (shot outside the 3 point line) of the year, winning ice pops for the training group! We look forward to an exciting and busy start to the season in January and here’s what some of our players and team captains had to say!
1st years ( Isla Corcoran + Sorcha Igoe )
There has been a great improvement in the quality of how the games are played. Everyone is a lot better at everything in general. Overall, we have been winning most of our matches the last being 38-3 to us against Mt Anville and we also won 23-20 against Dalkey. Our teams have improved greatly but there is still room for improvement and space to grow as a team.
Juniors ( Amelia Pedersen + Arian Cooke )
The matches this season have been going very well, although sadly not all matches have been a success. I am glad to say that the team has won the majority and we can't wait for the rest of the season
Cadette A ( Harriet Evison )
The Cadette A basketball team recently advanced into the quarter-finals of their league against Dunshaughlin CC! Well done to everyone who played, it was a great match. We didn’t win this time, but we are already preparing for our league next year, wish us luck! We plan to keep playing friendly matches for the rest of the year.
Cadette B ( Rebecca Zheng )
This season has been quite busy for us coming up to the mocks, so we don’t have that many matches this season as we’re sadly out of the league. Most of our team has been participating in basketball training every week, and everyone has been trying very hard for our only few matches. Hopefully after the mocks and JC we will be confident and strong for all our matches and participating in every training session.
Cadette C ( Evelyn Kenny )
Our team sadly went out of the league, but we had lots of great matches! We are now going to training as much as we can and getting ready for next year!
Senior A ( Maya Khan )
This term the Senior A basketball team have had great success getting to the quarterfinals held in Loreto on the Green however sadly Loreto took the win ending this year's season, but we will continue to train and work hard.
Senior B ( Ellie Begley )
On Friday the seventh of November we played newpark, losing in a close game. Despite this we are training hard and hope to do better throughout the season.
Senior C ( Senna Tennyson )
The Senior C Team has played good matches against schools like Rockford and Ballinteer. They are looking forward to spending more time on the court and are making an effort in training.
