Social Action
Generosity in Actions, Not Words.
In HCK we strive to foster an ethos of generosity, in attitude, in awareness and in action. Holy Child Killiney embraces this Cornelian quality by offering a wide range of opportunities to be of service, both in school, and in the local community.
In their various student leadership roles and areas of volunteering, students raise awareness about local and global issues of injustice and poverty, women's rights, and climate change.
Alongside this HCK girls also commit to service opportunities abroad in Lourdes and Kolkata, also undertaking the challenge of service in completing the Gaisce Award and the Pope John Paul II Awards.
HCK Social Action Team is one example of HCK living “Actions Not Words”.
Led by the Senior Social Action Prefect, and a Social Action representative from each class, we undertake a variety of awareness and outreach initiatives, always with a spirit of Christian vocation and mission.
Weekly lunchtime meetings are held with the Social Action Team.
From our annual school charity fundraiser to celebrating International Women’s Day, from Justice and Peace awareness to organising various Appeals, every event is undertaken with a huge generosity of spirit, imaginative and creative suggestions for action, and constant good humour.
The annual school charity fundraiser takes place each October on one of our Feast Days. Charities are nominated by the students and include organisations who work with the homeless and with people who have intellectual disability; various registered charities supporting people with physical and mental illnesses have also been supported, alongside national initiatives such as the RNLI and Dogs for the Disabled.
In November the Social Action Team organise a Rucksack and Winter Coat Appeal, collecting items for the Alice Leahy Trust which works with rough sleepers.
The Social Action Prefect organises the annual Sixth Year Christmas outreach, working with her peers to pack Hospital Care Bags for long term patients in St Vincent’s Psychiatric Hospital, Fairview, continuing the special link we have build with this hospital.
During the Spring Term the Social Action Team supports the message of Lent by preparing a Mass of Service, celebrating all HCK initiatives which strive to build a better world.
The Team also organises a very successful annual Hygiene Drive, collecting products for the National Hygiene Hub which supports various different organisations across the country.
Social Action is at the heart of life in Holy Child. The enthusiastic and generous involvement of so many students and staff in the many facets of our extensive Social Action Programme is truly inspiring.
Together we continue to make a difference as we live our motto “Actions Not Words”.
