St. Vincent De Paul

Holy Child Killiney Saint Vincent de Paul, Cornelia Connelly Conference.

The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul is Ireland's largest voluntary charitable organisation.

The goal of the St Vincent de Paul is to tackle poverty and social injustice in all its forms, through practical assistance to those in need.

The three pillars of the SVP are Support & Friendship, Promoting Self Sufficiency and Working for Social Justice.

The Holy Child SVP Conference is a registered Conference and is named in honour of our Foundress, Cornelia Connelly Holy Child School Conference.
Under the guidance of the Fifth Year SVP Leadership Team, Holy Child SVP Conference undertakes a wide variety of initiatives and activities which support these SVP Pillars.

The Cornelia Connelly SVP Conference is a vibrant and accessible group, with students from First to Sixth Year involved. They enthusiastically embrace all the initiatives through the year, and really embrace the words of the SVP Founder, Frederic Ozanam, who said -

I would like to embrace the whole world in a network of charity. Yours must be a work of love, of kindness, you must give your time, your talents, yourselves”.

Holy Child students are true Vincentians. They give willingly and kindly of their time, their talents and themselves, and we are consistently proud of their outstanding generosity of spirit.

Local area SVP Presidents are invited to Holy Child each year to address the students and always hugely commend their practical outreach which impacts so positively on so many people. Many of our students continue this wonderful ministry by becoming involved in their College Conferences at Third Level, and then become members of their local area adult Conferences.

Being a volunteer with the SVP helps change lives forever.

HCK links in with four local Conferences, Killiney, Sallynoggin, Loughlinstown and Shankill, and together we make a difference in the community. The annual leaflet drop, Christmas Campaign and regular bag-packs provide much needed support for the Conferences in our area. The Saturday Christmas Shopping Day for families who need some extra support at Christmas is always a highlight.

Peer teaching classes with younger years exploring the work of the SVP is also a hugely enjoyable activity undertaken by the Fifth Year members.

Students attend the annual Youth Day hosted by Young SVP, visit the local Vincentian Heritage Centre in Blackrock, and represent Holy Child at other events organised by the National SVP organisation.

We may often by a little word help others out of years of trouble

I love the atmosphere that SVP brings to Holy Child; we get the opportunity to work with the younger students and hear their opinions, while doing good for others.”

SVP gives me a chance to give back.”

By helping others I help myself, and become aware of what's happening in the wider community.”

SVP gave me the opportunity to bring happiness to people just around the corner, our neighbours, old and young.”

SVP gives us life experiences which will stand to us in later years, and helps us be more understanding of the causes of poverty and injustice.”

In SVP we learn that school isn't all about academic results, but also about developing social awareness.

SVP is like working with a close knit group of friends. My aunt is involved, and my older sister.”
