Amelie Receives Special Bloomsday Award
Congratulations to Amelie Hearne (3K), who has been recognised in the 2026 Bloomsday Young Authors Creative Writing Competition.
Amelie was awarded a Special Bloomsday Award as a finalist in the Intermediate category, a wonderful recognition of her creativity and writing talent. As a finalist, she was invited to a special awards ceremony at Marsh’s Library, Dublin, to celebrate her achievement.
The annual competition, organised by the Museum of Childhood, invites young people to engage creatively with the work of James Joyce through imaginative writing. This year’s theme, “Finding Home,” drew inspiration from Ulysses, whose central character spends much of the novel avoiding a return home.
Amelie’s beautifully crafted short story follows Hannah, a young girl walking along the seashore with her copy of The Iliad. Through vivid descriptions of the landscape and thoughtful reflection, the story explores themes of home, identity, history and the search for meaning.
We are immensely proud of Amelie on this outstanding achievement and congratulate her on this well-deserved recognition.
