1st Yr History Trip
We had a great First Year History trip to town on the 27 May. Our first stop was National Museum of Ireland.
Once we had finished admiring the Viking exhibition in the Museum, we split into two groups and went our separate ways. One of the visits was to the Book of Kells Experience in Trinity College. We were greeted with a warm welcome from our own tour guide , who told us everything from how the Book was made and how it came to Trinity. She then brought us into the Long Room, a beautiful old library, which we were lucky to see as it is closing soon for a restoration project. The Library was not only full of books but contained many important historical artefacts to Ireland such as a harp and an original copy of the Proclamation of Independence from 1916.
Both groups met up for lunch on the grass in Trinity. Next, was the National Gallery where we observed examples of both Medieval and Renaissance art. We had enthusiastic tour guides to tell us about these paintings. We saw the differences between the two different times, and I think it's safe to say the Medieval paintings were quite different to what we are used to today.
Soon the tours were over, and we left to get the dart back to Holy Child. We had a great day and were very grateful to the History Department for organising this for us.
