"Generosity, generosity, generosity, must be the beginning and ending of our life".
These are the words of Cornelia Connelly, our Foundress.
In HCK we strive to foster an ethos of generosity, in attitude, in awareness and in action. Holy Child Killiney embraces this Cornelian quality by offering a wide range of opportunities to be of service, both in school, in the local community and in the world at large. Meetings are held regularly with class representatives for Chaplaincy, SVP, Environment and Social Action Committees. Students raise awareness about local and global issues of injustice and poverty, women's rights, and climate change. HCK girls also commit to service opportunities abroad in Lourdes and Kolkata, alongside undertaking the challenge of service in undertaking the Gaisce Award and the Pope John Paul ii Award.
“There are varieties of gifts, but the same spirit;
There are varieties of service, but the same Lord;
There are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who activated them in everyone”. 1 Cor 12:4-6
“Are we not all bound to help each other, as well as to look to ourselves. Render the burden of others lighter by taking the heavier part of it ourselves". Cornelia Connelly
HCK Social Action Team is one example of HCK living ‘Actions not Words. Led by the Senior Social Action Prefect, and a Social Action representative from each class, we undertake a variety of awareness and outreach initiatives, always with a spirit of Christian vocation and mission. From our annual school charity fundraiser to celebrating International Women’s Day, from Justice and Peace awareness to competing in Trocaire Development Education competitions, every event is undertaken with a huge generosity of spirit, imaginative and creative suggestions and constant good humour.
The annual school charity fundraiser takes place each October on one of our Feast Days. Charities are nominated by the students and include organisations who work with the homeless and with people who have intellectual disability; various registered charities supporting people with physical and mental illnesses have also been supported, alongside national initiatives such as the RNLI.
Together we continue to make a difference as we live our motto ‘Actions not Words’.
Through the year different national and international awareness campaigns are highlighted with creative activities.
International Women’s Day is celebrated with a week of fun activities celebrating the achievements of women. It culminates in School Assembly where invited guests address the students; our guests are past pupils of Holy Child Killiney who share their experiences in their chosen careers, alongside memories of their time as pupils in Killiney.
Supporting the Trocaire Lenten campaign is another focus of the Social Action Team. The HCK entry in the National Game-changers Competition - The Real Game of Life - was awarded overall second place.
