This is an incredibly exciting time in Holy Child Killiney as our next phase of development is the provision of Art and Home Economics Spaces.
Art promotes cultural awareness and empathy, builds conceptual thinking, teaches critical thinking skills including observation, reasoning, and problem-solving all of which set HCK students apart in education and the work place. The demand for Art as a subject has increased in HCK and more space is required than ever before. Our new art room will facilitate this demand. In addition, we pride ourselves on challenging our students in their creativity by offering them a huge variety of media and materials. Our new art room will give us the space to use these materials. It will offer plenty of natural light as well as the ability to create zoned/directional lighting (essential for shadows and shading), all of which are crucial for observation.
Home Economics (H.E.) not only offers a pathway into the creative industries in Ireland but also meaningful opportunities for personal development and expression. We are committed to giving our students the knowledge and skills to live healthy and fulfilled lives. The demand for H.E. at HCK has continued to rise. It is important that we are able to harness this enthusiasm and provide facilities which accommodate our need. A new Home Economics Suite will include a bespoke design room and contemporary kitchen facilities in which students can work in smaller groups and maximise learning. Co - locating the design room and kitchen means that students will be able to blend the theoretical and the practical.
We started fundraising for this phase in 2023 and we are so grateful for the incredible support we have received to date. We will shortly be able to share visuals for how this eagerly anticipated space will look. In the meantime, if you would like to get involved please contact Melissa Harrison at mharrison@holychildkilliney.ie or 086 604 2849.
