Our development began with building our new Sports Hall simply because we needed it badly. We were operating out of an old gymnasium the size of one badminton court. Our students deserved better.
We want our students to have a love of sport so that they will stay in sport throughout their lives. This will promote good mental and physical health for them and their families. It will offer them opportunities, help them to learn and lead to better educational and life outcomes.
With our new Sports Hall we can now offer our students:
- Basketball
- Volleyball
- Badminton
- Circuit training
- Gymnastics
- Aerobics
- Indoor hockey and other programmes
So far so good since we opened the Sports Hall in February 2015 there has been a huge increase in the numbers playing basketball. For the first time our Basketball teams are competing in the All-Ireland League and the All-Ireland Cup. In being awarded our Active Schools Flag, our students were found to be fitter and stronger than their peers across the country, competing with race times of boys their age and bucking the national trend of female teenage drop out from sport.
Our plan is working.
