Principal's Welcome

As Principal of Holy Child Killiney, I am delighted to welcome you to our website which will give you a flavour of the distinctiveness of our school. Holy Child Killiney is a fee-charging Catholic Voluntary Secondary School for girls, founded in 1947, with an enrolment of approximately four hundred students. The promotion of academic excellence and the holistic development of students including sporting achievement and musical ability is at the core of education here.

We are committed to “academic challenge and the joy of learning” as advocated by our foundress Cornelia Connelly, herself a mother of five children and a convert to Catholicism. Her educational philosophy was rooted in 'meeting the wants of the age'. To reflect this, our curriculum is broad, balanced and rooted in Catholic values. We continually review our approach to teaching and learning to keep abreast of best practice as well as enhancing our facilities to address curricular needs.

Each student is enabled and encouraged by a team of highly-committed, dedicated and inspirational teachers, to set high academic standards, be actively engaged in the extra and co-curricular life of the School and be generous in giving of her time in the service of others. “Actions Not Words” is our school motto. This is reflected in the social outreach activities undertaken in our school community throughout the year.

In conjunction with a highly-challenging academic environment, the School has a strong pastoral care system comprising the Principal, Deputy Principal, Form Teacher, Year Head, Guidance Counsellor, and Learning Support. We create in Holy Child Killiney, an environment where our students are cared for, supported, and enabled to flourish. They are provided with opportunities to develop strong leadership skills imbued with a sense of justice and compassion. We strive to enable our students to leave the School as young women who can approach the challenges of the world with competence, confidence, empathy, and resilience.

I hope you enjoy visiting our website and that it gives you a sense of the holistic, nurturing, and rounded education provided in our School. If you are considering Holy Child Killiney for your daughter, I warmly invite you to contact the School. We would be delighted to welcome you for a visit and give you the opportunity to experience firsthand the unique spirit of our school community.
