Athletics...
On Jan 26th 2012 on a very mild Wednesday in January, our HCK athletes participated in a Cross Country event at Avondale house, Rathdrum Co. Wicklow. It was yet another superb display of the athletic ability and commitment from our HCK students. Our results were outstanding considering over 100 participants competing for their school in each category. We are very proud of our students, congratulations and well done! The Leinster Cross Country event is scheduled for February 8th, 2012. Any parent interested in helping at the event, please let us know.

On a cold December day HCK cross country athletes were again in action at St. Paul’s invitational event in Raheny. The results were outstanding. The seniors took gold with Sarah Keane coming in 1st place overall and Zoe Carroll coming in 2nd overall. The Inter team also took Gold with Eilish Keogh coming in 2nd overall. The Juniors took silver with Julia Healy coming in 2nd overall and the minors took 3rd with Hannah O’Neill taking 3rd overall. Many thanks to Rosanna Baker for all the time and work she has put forth in coaching these talented athletes.
Hockey...
The first years A team beat High School 1-0 in a friendly. It was a hard
fought match with High School the stronger team in the first half. Our goal
came mid way through the second half with a rebound from a short corner put
away by Katie O'Connell. Man of Match Katie O'Connell. Good luck to the A
team who play thier league match against Wesley this Saturday 28th Jan.
The B1 Team came back fron 2-0 down to earn a draw v High School with
second half goals from Claire O'Reilly and Isobel Grimley. Man of Match was
Claire O' Reilly
The B2 team also won their friendly match v High school with 2 goals from
Elgin McNamara. Man of match Elgin McMamara."

1st Year Hockey
There are 52 first years playing hockey this season. They train twice a
week with Deirdre Mathews and Gordon Watkins and are working very hard
learning all the basic hockey skills that they will need to become great
players. This season the Leinster league has decided to change the format of
the first year leagues. The first year A team will compete in a first year
11 a-side competitive league and the rest of the players will play 8 a-side non competitive friendlies. This will allow more players to play smaller games.
The first year A team started their leinster league campaign with a great
1-0 win v Our Ladys Terenure. A very close match in the first half but our
first year team grew stronger and Tara O'Donnell scored the only goal midway
through second half. This week they play St Raphaelas in their next league
match. The B1 and B2 teams are also progressing with victories over Sion Hill, Gerards and Foxrock.

14/01/2012
Congratulations to the Senior A team who beat St. Joseph's of Cluny 6 - 2 in Saturday's match. Goal scorers were Sally Shipsey x 3, Sarah Keane x 2 and Hannah Dillon. Joint MPV Sally Shipsey and Sarah Keane.

The Senior hockey squad who travelled to Cheltenham, UK over the mid-term break to play in the Schools Nations Tournament. With 14 teams from schools in Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales, Holy Child Killiney played some superb hockey and finished in a very credible 7th position. A full report will follow in our Christmas newsletter.

Congratulations to Emma Russell who was named Captain of the Leinster U18 Schoolgirls Hockey team for the Interprovincial tournatment which was held in Belfast on October 22nd and 23rd.
Senior B Rise above the Rain
Despite having to stop and shelter from heavy rain during the match HCK Senior B played out the only game of the weekend. A slow start from us allowed Loreto Bray to get used to the wet conditions first and we found ourselves down a goal but some superb play between Sarah Keane and Isobel Demery resulted in Isobel scoring a fine goal. A number of attacks from Katie Cahill and Aisling Murray required Bray's GK to make numerous fine saves, including a superb effort from the top of the circle from Cathy Caslin. The match continued in the downpours and despite our best efforts the result remained a 1-1 draw. Well done girls. MVP = Isobel Demery
