To celebrate Poetry Day (26th April) and as part of Poetry Month eight TY students (Eryn King, Anna Reynolds, Suzanna Winklemann, Lucy O'Kane, Síofra Drohan, Pamela Shiel, Alana Jackson & Siobhan Fitzgerald) travelled to the dlr LexIcon Library to ‘Commit a Poem to Pavement’. This HCK initiative combined art and reading to highlight poetry in a public space. The idea is that students would pick their favourite poem or line from a poem and choose a piece of pavement outside the Library to write this on and decorate in chalk. The theme of this year’s celebration was Poetry Surprises. The artwork was left outside the dlr LexIcon for all the public to see.
Students were also interviewed by RTE news2day presenter Tommy Meskill. He asked them about the project and about the poems they chose. The interview will air today at 4.20pm on RTEnews2day. https://www.rte.ie/news/player/news2day/
Well done to all the girls who participated and used their talents to liven up their communities - You truly embodied our motto, ‘Actions not Words’.
